Attorney Scott E. Schiltz, P.L.
Scott E. Schiltz was born in Verdun, Meuse, France, raised in Indiana and Miami, and graduated high school in Lakeland. Mr. Schiltz earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from the University of Florida, Gainesville, in 1982. He is a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity Alumni Association. Mr. Schiltz received his Juris Doctor Degree from Stetson College of Law, St. Petersburg, in 1985 and was a member of the Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity, serving as President. While attending Stetson, Mr. Schiltz was a member of the Student Bar Association and the American Bar Association, Law Student Division.
Mr. Schiltz was previously the Division Director of Courts “C” and “D” at the Public Defender’s Office, Sixth Judicial Circuit in Clearwater, supervising twelve attorneys and staff. Mr. Schiltz’s eleven year experience with the Public Defender’s Office includes over seventy-five felony jury trials, as well as misdemeanor, juvenile and Baker Act cases.
Mr. Schiltz was admitted to practice from the Florida Bar in 1985, and admitted to practice in the U.S. Middle District Court, and U.S. Supreme Court. He has attained the highest rating (“AV”) by Martindale-Hubbell, Inc. Mr. Schiltz is a member of the Florida Bar Family Law Section, a Member of the Clearwater Bar Association and past Chairman of the Family Law Section. Mr. Schiltz is Past President and a Master of the Canakaris Inn of Court. Mr. Schiltz was appointed to serve on the Florida Bar Family Law Section Executive Council in 2002. Mr. Schiltz is a past Editor of the Family Law Commentator and “Res Ipsa Loquitur”, the Clearwater Bar Association Newsletter. Mr. Schiltz serves as a volunteer Guardian Ad Litem. Mr. Schiltz served as President of the Clearwater Bar Association, 2001-02 and is active in many sections and committees of the Clearwater Bar. He is a current Board member of the Clearwater Bar Foundation. Mr. Schiltz is Past Chair of Grievance Committee “C,” Sixth Judicial Circuit and is a member of the Statewide Conference on Pro Se Litigation. In 2002, he was appointed by Sixth Circuit Chief Judge David Demers to the Professionalism Committee. Mr. Schiltz has written numerous articles both locally and for the Family Law Section “Commentator.”
Mr. Schiltz is a charter member of Collaborative Divorce Lawyers of Tampa Bay, serving on the membership committee of that group, and is a member of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals.
Mr. Schiltz is a graduate of the Leadership Pinellas Class of 2001, participated in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Organization, Habitat for Humanity, and the Safety Harbor Museum Board of Directors. He enjoys traveling and scuba diving, as well as snow and water skiing.
